Conference on Alternative to Effectively Meet Power Demand at Reasonable Price

Conference on Alternative to Effectively Meet Power Demand at Reasonable Price

Capacity is the ability to produce electricity at a specified time period. In a capacity market, capacity is traded and explicitly remunerated. A capacity market is designed to ensure sufficient reliable capacity is available by providing payments to encourage investment in new capacity or for existing capacity to remain open. Presently the Indian power sector does not have a capacity market. However with changing generation technologies, particularly with rising share of intermittent renewables, ensuring the availability of sufficient capacity at all times is becoming challenging. Moreover, it needs to be ensured that the capacity is utilized when required.
